Bus donation
When the lodge was first built, we were constantly being asked by the local people for transport to the town, especially when people were sick and needed taking to the hospital. So together with the local community we decided to solve the problem by providing a 25 seater bus.
Simien Walia Race
In December 2015, we held the first 10k race for local people in the town of Debark. We called it the Simien Walia race. Walia because it was sponsored by Walia beer (Heineken), Simien because Simien Lodge organised the race. The prize money was given by Simien lodge together with some tour operators. The tee shirts were sponsored by Heineken.

The bus has been a real help for the local people. Chachi, the famous ethiopian singer, came and made the presentation.It was a major effort to get the bus which was in fact a converted Izuzu truck. This is the most economic way of manufacturing a bus in Ethiopia since it creates jobs in factory in Addis Ababa.
