Conservation Classes at Simien Lodge

A film from Simien Lodge in the Simien Mountains, Ethiopia. Simien Lodge conservation classes for children.

This film shows conservation classes for children at Simien Lodge, inside Simien Mountains National Park. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to animals found nowhere else in the world: the gelada, the walia ibex and the Ethiopian wolf (wildlife).

Teaching local people about the park's wildlife is part of the lodge's wider work with the communities around it. The lodge has equipped the schools in Miligebsa, the village nearest the lodge, and Tigridabo, near the park gate, with new desks and benches (school projects). It has also given the area a community bus, fuel-saving stoves and a water well, and supported eye care in Gondar (all community projects).

Guests can learn about the park too: most evenings the lodge has something on, from a film to an evening talk, including a slide show about the gelada (national park and guides).
